THE VOLUNTEER & CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

Your volunteer work is based on the remote island of Curieuse, a true tropical paradise. The entire island is a designated national park, which is managed by our partnering organization, Seychelles National Park Authority.

Your time will be spent conducting giant tortoise maintenance and restoration, mangrove surveys, and learning about and contributing to marine conservation efforts being conducted on the island, with a primary focus on the critically endangered hawksbill turtle and the sicklefin lemon shark.

Lemon Shark Catch & Release Program

Track down shark pups in the shallow lagoons where you will gather valuable data pertaining to population and growth rates on the elusive, under studied specie. The pup sharks are captured, scanned for any tags, weighed, measured, photographed and released.

Sea Turtles

Monitor and collect important data of both hawksbill and green turtles on the island. You will primarily collect and collate information such as tag numbers, carapace (shell) measurements and number of eggs laid, and carry out nest evacuations to measure hatching success rates.

General Environment

General environmental awareness and clean-up activities will also be carried out during your volunteer experience.
